Activities at Manatee Springs Cave
System, Chiefland, FL
Update
Summer 2004:
Mapping
continues with the use of staging and scooters into the side passages. Divers
continue gathering survey information and notes on the cave system and creatures
encountered during the dives. Line maintenance in this high-flow system is a
continuing concern.

Above is the survey completed as of 2005 of Manatee
Springs. As you can see, the mapping project has made good progress with
almost 18,000 feet of passage mapped Participants include: John
Bojar, Cindy Butler, Al Heck, Brett Hemphill, James Hurley, Annette Long, Mark
Long, Michael Poucher, Sandra Poucher, and Buford Pruitt.
Special thanks to Mark and Annette Long for coordinating our
efforts with the park, to Brian Pease for showing us how to operate the cave
radio, and to John Zumrick and the USDCT for the use of their cave radio
equipment.
